Lakeshore Rail Corridor Mural
The latest LVBIA mural captures the unique character of Liberty Village! In partnership with the City of Toronto, and with major support from Metrolinx / GO Transit, the LVBIA has completed a mural along the retaining wall adjacent to the Lakeshore GO train track, just east of the Dufferin St Bridge. This mural was completed in four excruciatingly hot days, at the end of August.
This wall is visible to the GO and VIA train users, to the west bound Gardiner Expressway traffic and to walkers on the east Dufferin Street sidewalk from Exhibition Place. The retaining wall was installed last fall, and the very next day graffiti tags covered it – not a very welcoming first impression of Liberty Village!
This mural is a very long at 270' - just a few feet shorter than the length of a football field! The theme of the mural is Liberty Village: Work, Play, Live! The words Liberty Village are depicted in block letters that are the various buildings of Liberty Village. The small details are what make this truly a Liberty Village depiction as the mural includes the smoke stacks, patios, office workers, and feel of Liberty Village. Metrolinx was very happy with the final look of this installation and are now looking at installing other murals, near Union Station – Liberty Village led the way!
